Hogarth Adventures!
Bangkok is a frenetic place and blooming hot but what it does have is a pizza hut and that's what nik was ready for the evening we arrived. Course of antibiotics finished she could eat what she liked - Pizza it was! Unfortunately she was still struggling to do long days so plans of river cruises to see floating markets, more temples etc.. became a thing of past. The day before we were due to leave we did manage to get out and about to the grand Palace after getting completely lost in a part of Bangkok that not many tourist visit..... the car and mechanic sector! On arrival at the palace, our first scam took place and we were told at one entrance, 'it was closed' by a very official looking man but 'buy your ticket here and come back at 5!' Not quite believing we went to another entrance and HOARDS of people were entering the palace definately not shut then! The palace was beautiful, magnificent and detailed gold architecture, without doubt the most stunning palace we have seen in Asia to date. We then wandered down to the river, it was more built up than expected but in the distance you could see a breath-taking temple whose name escapes us, but definately a place to visit on our next stop! After we caught a tuk tuk to the infamous (but pretty Phuket tacky) Khao San road, soaked up the atmosphere for a few seconds we then joined the traffic polluted mayhem home. In the heat, the fumes and noise really get to you in a tuk tuk and we decided then that air conditioned taxi's, which are actually cheaper anyway, are the much preferred form of transport. I know the Hogarth's/dolphins that have been to B'kok loved it and with more energy and a less spaced out Nik, I am sure we will too..... we will just have to make it part of our next world trip!!! Next year perhaps?? 2 days later we made the early ride out to the airport to board the plane for Nepal as destination 7 and Nikki's mum/Ian awaited!!! Excitement was looming re seeing them and the Himalaya's/Everest of course!
