Another really poor sleep. Not good, I seem to be having a bit of insomnia. So I was awake at 6am and laid in bed for a while planning what to do with my day, I know I'll go bike another 110km. After packing up and eating a good breakfast I set off, destination Kelheim. For some reason I always get lost arriving and leaving the cities. There are so many different bike routes in this area that it is easy to get on the wrong one, as I have found out more than once. Once back on track, with the SUN shining for the first and last time this week I picked up a good rhythm and made good progress. I had to get to Ingolstadt by lunchtime so with encouragement from my iPod I made it into the city at 1pm. Another beautiful city which warrants more time which unfortunately I didn't have. I stopped in a bike shop whilst I was there with the hope of having a rear mudguard put on. For any of you that have seen the weather forecast for this area you will have seen that I am I'm for a real treat over the next four days. More rain and thunder, what a joy.
After leaving Ingolstadt, I knew that I still had some way to go. It was pretty hot by this time 27 degrees and I was in full sunlight. I was thirsty, damn thirsty and must have drunk about three liters of water and about two liters of apfelschorle to keep my sugar level up as the heat had taken away my want for food. My music was still keeping me going and I was enjoying the ride. I had been advised to take a 5km boat trip down the Danube as the road was very busy and steep. I had no problem with this advice as the boat trip was through a gorge which I love. However I still had to get the last boat from Welchingen and I still had a fair way to go which turned out to be mainly uphill. Whoever told me the Danube bike route was pretty much downhill all the way was lying, oh hang on a minute that was me - classic case of not trusting everything you read on the Internet. The last 10km were never-ending but I made it to the last boat with time on my hands. The boat trip was beautiful but too short.
Having arrived in Kelheim it was time to find somewhere to sleep for the night - this turned out to be an absolute nightmare. Everything in the centre was full up or way too expensive. I felt like Joseph & Mary going from door to door asking for somewhere to sleep. After some help from a nice lady who rang a pension for me, I set off to find my bed for the night. I had been told to go over the river, little did I know that there were two rivers in this town and of course I had to go over the wrong one which meant of course more km. I finally found my way after asking a couple of nice gentlemen who told me to go over the two rivers as it as now. By this time it was 8.15 and I hadn't eaten, thankfully there were some golden arches in the distance so I ran in there grabbed some food and asked for directions once again. When I arrived at my place of rest for the night, I was greeted by Frau Pöppel aka Hitler's wife as the first thing she did was tap her watch and say you're late. Leading me into house she then proceeded to quiz me about my bags and trailer and made it clear that under no circumstances was I to wash any of my clothes.
Anyway, duly warned I was lead to my room and this is where I am staying. I really hope that I get a good sleep tonight as tomorrow I have another 100km to Straubing in thunder storms.

Suzanne Damn girl! Sounds like you know how to have FUN!!! Sheesh!!! I wonder why we choose to do what we do when we have time and money to do "whatever" we want... Remember the sunscreen and hang some damn pictures!!! At least I can have a vicarious holiday!
Sue Honestly, it's a good thing your German is limited or I know you would have really given her a piece of your mind ;-)
