Walker's Travels in Scandinavia 2017 and others
15-39 degC; 70-23% humidity Distance: 318 km; total: 2376 km Start time: 8:35am (VIC time); arrival: 12:30pm (SA time) We left a little later than expected as we didn't get out of bed until 7am!! We refueled and then hit the road. We had forgotten about the fruit fly control station, so stopped about 200m before it and scoffed down four nectarines and four apples!! We stopped in Renmark for morning tea which we made in the van. We arrived in Nuriootpa about 4.5 hours later. The road was pretty good the whole way with only one stretch of lumpy bits but it only lasted about 5km, if that. After checking-in at the Barossa Tourist Park (We have been here before in 2014, after Greg had his accident in Batemans Bay and another in Penola, and we stayed in a cabin) (we reserved a site for the Fischers as well) we set up (site #49) and had lunch, and then a snooze and read for Wendy and a read for Greg. It was then time to satisfy Greg's need for a ride, so we went around the block to check out the eateries for tonight. It is pub night after all. There are only two real options, with pretty similar menus, one being a tad more expensive than the other. Not long after arriving back from the ride, the Fischers arrived. They were delayed in leaving Mildura as they had their vehicle serviced. Whilst we sat outside and attended to some admin and book reading, they chose to sit inside with the air con on to watch a car rally. We ended up eating at Billy Jack's Bar and Courtyard, where we all had very substantial and delicious meals; we even had some left-overs! We walked there and back and it was a pleasant 3km walk. Greg had a decaf coffee and the rest of us had water as we sat and chatted for another half an hour or so before hitting the sack. As we were about to go to sleep, the rain, well it was "droplets" really, started.
