Walker's Travels in Scandinavia 2017 and others
Day 15 Wed 25 May 16, Flinders Ranges, one word - wet, 7 to 12 deg. Loved the sound of rain on the roof last night and this morning. In such a dry barren place it is a real blessing to hear it fall. It rained off and on all day so our activity level dropped significantly. Time to catch up on some admin, thank goodness we have good internet & phone service. If we had stayed at Rawnsley Station we would not have been so lucky. Just after lunch there was a break in the rain so we donned our coats and set off on a hike to Hills Homestead, about 7km round trip. Basically the story goes that from the late 1800s many people have tried to farm this area, but each time the droughts have beaten them. Its current use as a National Park is the best option. On the way back from our walk we came across a herd of feral goats only a couple of hundred metres from the park HQ. They weren't too concerned about us at all. There was a couple of tiny kids amongst them and they were so cute, but they do a lot of damage to the environment so should be taken out. Just as we approached the van park it started raining so good timing. Roast chicken and carrots (all we had left) in the electric fry pan with steamed greens for dinner. Tomorrow we head off to the Clare Valley.
