Walker's Travels in Scandinavia 2017 and others
Day 10 Fri 20 May 16, Broken Hill NSW to Peterborough SA, 284km fine & sunny 9 - 20deg, however it seemed much cooler due to a lazy breeze which persisted all day. Another beautiful fresh morning at the racecourse as we packed up ready to continue our journey westwards. Watched another colourful sunrise and the trotters doing their training while we had brekky. Got away about 8:10am and were soon in the outback on the Barrier Hwy (towards Adelaide). NSW and SA roads are wider and better in the main to those in Qld, although ours are improving; slowly. Wide open spaces, emus, sheep and dead roos was about our lot for today. Apart from the terrible carnage of roos (something must be done, poor things) it was a very easy and pleasant day. Stopped for mornos at Olary, one pub and three houses, oh and a disused railway station. We arrived at the only van park in Peterborough at 12:15pm. Fantastic facilities, nice spacious drive-through sites and peaceful, all overlooking a wheat field, complete with sheep, goats and alpacas. Wendy did some Army work and washing while Greg went for a quick ride around town to get his bearings. Some lovely 19th century buildings that we can explore in more detail tomorrow. And a motorcycle museum that might also just get a visit. A late afternoon walk in the cool breeze soon had us scurrying back to a warm van for some hot food. Dinner was home-cooked tuna mornay and veggies; yum.
