12/09/11 Day 34. Journey Back. Mulheim, Germany
So I started the drive at 5.20am! It was pitch black and the roads were dead. Dave put Oasis on the iPod and we had a sing along. Dave took over driving at about 7.30am and we got to Mulheim, to McRent to drop the camper off at about 9.30am. No problems apart from the hole in the table caused by Sam Edwards' hefty speaker doing it in. The taxi come and took us to Duisberg train station at 10.30am... 3 hours before the train was due to depart. Dossing in coffee shops was afoot! After dossing in Le Crobac and Starbuck's it was time for the train to Amsterdam Centraal. As we'd predicted, some old person who couldn't read/understand the reserved notice were in some of our seats! grrr. The train came into Amsterdam 20 minutes late, it was due at 3.25pm but arrived at 3.45pm. The bus we needed to get left at 4pm! We managed to catch it 5 minutes before it left for port and kissed Sam E goodbye, he was catching a plane. The water in the port was very choppy and we worried that the ferry would be cancelled but it was fine, it went ahead. After the ferry was pulled out by two tug boats, we were away, Newcastle bound. The waves at sea were huge, Nick and Dave got seasick but me and Aaron were fine. We hit the bar to listen to some man play guitar and sing but got knackered, the early start hit me for sure. We retired at about 11.35pm. The ferry rocked me gently to sleep :)
