Nha Trang:
The bus from Hoi An to Nha Trang was our last overnight bus journey and our longest! Once again we didn't sleep to well, so when we got to Nha Trang we were both pretty tired. The first thing we noticed about Nha Trang was how hot it was. It was boiling. Our bus didn't drop us off where it was supposed to; so we ended up with a good 30min walk in the heat with our bags to our hostel. Our hostel was ok, we didn't have a window in our room. Well we had one in the bathroom looking onto the elevator shaft!
There isn't much to do in Nha Trang. It's basically just a beach resort and we felt like we could have been in Europe. It's very built up and modern and a lot of Russians.
We decided to have a bit of a holiday while we were there, seen as though there was nothing historical or even Vietnamese to see really. We also decided that we'd make more of an effort to go out at night and have a bit of a drink. As much as we love each other, the same company all day and every night for the last 3-4 months could do with spicing up now and then!
We just caught up on sleep on the first day and then went out for something to eat. We both fancied some western food after eating local food for the last 3 months and we stumble across a Texas-BBQ restaurant that specialised in RIBS!! So we went there and didn't hold back. Ribs, chilli fries, taco's, corn, potato salad, coleslaw...it was delicious. It was a real typical American diner, with Wayne the owner a big fat Texan who just sat there all day smoking, playing back gammon and bragging about how good his smoked ribs are. There are pictures covering the walls of people who have dined there. Wayne told us that you need to eat there 3 times before you get your picture on the wall. We had 3 nights..we can easily do that! So the next day went for our dinner, then tea again on the last night to get our picture put up! So if any of you ever go to Nha Trang, be sure to pop in and check us both out on the wall!
The 2nd night there we'd stop off in bar near our hostel. We didn't have much of a choice really as the girl outside (whose name we found out is Windy!) had been chasing us both down the street most of the day trying to get us to come in for a drink. She eventually wore us both down and we had a few. This is where we met Dean and Sarah...also known as the Toops. We got chatting and had a few drinks with them. They're a married couple from Essex who were on a 2 week holiday in Vietnam. Sarah had done a little bit of travelling before, but Dean hadn't. So this was all pretty much new to him. You could tell he missed his home comforts as they'd only been in Vietnam for a couple of days and he was already complaining that you can't get a good cup of tea out here! I did have to agree with him though!
We had a good laugh with them, so we decided to meet up with them the next day. We went down to the beach for the day to meet them and chill out for a bit, and then they came with us to the Texas-BBQ place for our last night. I think they wanted to try and squeeze in on our picture for the wall even though that was they're first time there. We made sure they were pushed out though. Hilary ordered herself a margarita, it said it was big in the menu, but when it came....it was ridiculous. It wasn't a drink, it was a fish bowl! She pretty much finished it off on her own though! We moved onto another bar and spent the rest of the night drinking cocktails and playing connect 4 and jenga with the Toops....living life on the edge!
Next stop is Dalat where we will be doing the easy riders for a few days. We can't wait for that. We'll be meeting up with the Toops again after the easy riders.
Things we learnt
- There's not much historical
- The Island you can see from the beach is a water park
- The Texas ribs there are amazing!
