Vietnam - Hanoi
Good Morning Vietnam!! (Sorry it just had to be done!)
We arrived in Hanoi on the 31 August and it felt quite strange to be back in Asia. We arrived at the Hostel and its true what they say about the motorbikes, it was crazy!! Crossing the road is a true art! We had three days in Hanoi which we mostly spent walking around and planning our trip in Nam. We stayed in the Old Quarter of Hanoi where you can literally buy anything you want, it is a child's paradise as there are rows of shops selling kids toys. Walking around is a bit tricky though as the pavement are full of shops and motorbikes so you have to walk on the road and you can feel the motorbikes whipping past you! We had lots of good local food here too, we mainly just sat down somewhere and they just plonked it down in front of us so we don't really know what we ate but it was good! Oh and you'll be pleased to know the beer is back in our price range of 40p a bottle!
So after planning away and seeing what was on offer we decided to go to Sapa, which is North West Vietnam to do some trekking.
A few things we learnt
- Crossing the road is an art form...never hesitate!
- You can buy everything and anything!
- Chihuahua dogs are popular and very cute!
- The food is good and you never know what you're going to get!
- Apparently there are giant turtles in the local lake...we didn't see one.
- Beer is cheap yar!
- Men like their finger nails long...sick..
