Today marks my last day in Guernsey before I head off to the UK and stop at Amy's for a few nights. I really will miss my amazing family and friends, Boo, Toffski and Charlie, the start of the basketball season and of course this little rock that is home, along with my comfy bed and our hot power shower! My bed has felt more and more comfortable each morning this week as the prospect of camping in Africa has been advancing quickly- looking forward to some nights under the African sky though!
I have been quite relaxed packing, been through a few dilemmas but all sorted- I managed it, 5 months in one bag, and easier than I thought! But also feels very heavy, my main backpack I think is about 13kg so quite happy with that. After a productive, albeit late night packing session yesterday I treated myself to a lie in this morning and stuck Friends on the TV with a cuppa. I am one to feel the cold alot (and moan about it!) so Im excited to be chasing the sun this winter, I won't miss the struggle of having to crawl out of bed early in the morning when it's cold and dark outside!
Mixed emotions today, big excitement, but a few nerves and some hard goodbyes have been had! Still, technology makes communication so much easier these days so I'll be thankful for that. Had a lovely Moule lunch with Grandma at Pembroke- not sure I'll be able to beat a view like that over lunch, we'll see! Came back home for a coffee and to sort my last bits out before heading up to the airport for the last of the difficult goodbyes.
It's all still feeling a little surreal, I don't think it will sink in properly until I'm at Heathrow on Saturday and I'm boarding the flight that will take me out of Europe for the first time!
