We got through our nightmare train journey and got to a sunny Coffs Harbour, albeit a little jaded! Grabbed a taxi which was more like a mini bus for our heavy bags and got to Prince Street and our new apartment. The cheapest option around bellow shared dorm rooms- Crazy! Hostels are so ridiculously overpriced in Aus! We stuck Harry potter on our flat screen Tv and then headed 3 mins down the road to the long stretch of beach, Park Beach. Really nice quiet beach, we walked along the shoreline towards the creek, noticing a lot of these weird clam clusters which we found out were called Goose Barnacles- horrible looking things which move on a rock and have 5 long fingers that stretch out of the shell. We reached the creek which cuts off the rest of journey to get to the plaza so we tucked up our shorts and waded through... getting thoroughly soaked in the process! A lot of fun though! We went on and explored the plaza and took the drier but longer route back. The next day we got chatting to the owner of the apartments for a while, borrowed some DVDs and did a big food shop at woolworths before watching the first anchorman. We've done a few long walks especially along the coast and into the main town centre, we walked to diggers beach the next cove around the cliff on one of the hottest days! This resulted in us all diving into the pool fully clothed on our return to our Apartment! Following this we worked out a good deal with the manager Debbie for accommodation and moved into the balcony room which was quite a lot bigger so agreed a discounted rate for staying 3 weeks. With lack of a gym recently we've made the most of our new space and done work outs like a group of lunatics jumping and lunging around following a personal training app, done this trick though as it's been intense! Has helped to have the ice cold pool to dive into afterwards. We found another cinema close by and although it took us a long time to work out how to cross the highway we watched Saving Mr Banks which was very very good and me Amy and Jen really enjoyed it! We've done another good walk to mutton bird island which is a nature reserve overlooking the national marine park, unfortunately we're just missing the whale season where they migrate up the east coast from May time and this can often be a great view point to see them surfacing. We had to walk through the creek again getting even more soaked than last time, head to toe, as it was higher tide and the current was so much stronger!! We did embarrassingly attract the attention of the lifeguards which drove by to observe we were all ok! Nice to know they're keeping a good look out and on the ball. Since then we've watched a lot of tennis on Tv, gutted I wasn't in Melbourne for this but may come back one year for new year and the open! We had a few care parcels from Debbie of exciting food she thought we'd like and would help us out. Me and Amy had a lovely relaxing day on the beach listening to iPods, reading, acting like kids in the big waves dodging body boards and practicing our beach ball skills, then yesterday we grabbed the bus into the centre again where we had an amusing few games in the bowling alley followed by beans on toast with bargain sangers (sausages!) and ice cream Debbie brought around.
We've had some very hot weather and it's a bit more humid here compared to Sydney and Melbourne but recently we've had a few big thunderstorms and it's quite overcast now. Hopefully well be back on the beach soon :)
