Went to a nearby Starbucks for a light breakfast and tried, ultimately unsuccessfully, to get free WiFi there -- rather frustrating. Then we headed to the Tourist Info office near Piccadilly Circus to a get a London Pass, which gets you into a bunch of places cheaper than if you pay individual admissions. It was still closed when we got there and when it finally opened at 9:30 we had to stand in line for about 20 min., trying our patience. Finally got our passes and headed to the Tower of London, where we saw, among numerous other interesting things, the Crown jewels. Ended up spending almost four hours there, including lunch, but it is among the top "must see" attractions in London. Great views of the famous Tower Bridge (see pic) from there also. Then we took a boat cruise on the Thames, during which it was raining lightly, but we got a narrated tour of the major sights all the way to Westminster. Final objective of the day was St. Paul's Cathedral. Jim and I agreed that it is probably the most beautiful cathedral inside that we've seen on this trip so far, and we've seen more than a few. The dome is second only to St. Peter's in size. As luck would have it, the Underground was to go on strike at 6:00 so we headed home before then. Turns out they postponed it till 9:00, so we took the Tube to an interesting restaurant recommended in Rick Steve's book. The waiters were dressed as Trappist (whatever that means) monks. Their specialty is mussels, so that's what we ordered. Jim's didn't seem to agree with him, but I enjoyed mine. On the way back I found a KFC with free WiFi, so I can catch up on things again.
