After spending a few days in Kota Bharu following the border crossing and coming to the realisation that we were unable to go to Pulau Perhention we all ended up in Georgetown in Penang. Penang is an island off the west coast and known for it's delicious Malay food. We were in for a treat.
Jh and I arrived the day before L and T and on the final day of celebrations for Deepavali (Divali - Festival of Light - all the shops were covered in twinkle lights to celebrate). We found a hostel and then made our way to Little India. The streets were full of people enjoying the celebration, tucking into the flavoursome Indian food on offer, purchasing the ever so sweet Indian... sweets, ladies having henna done at the side of the road all of this with fireworks overhead, Indian music in our ears and the smell of different incenses, sensory overload! It was great to get involved and after purchasing one our favourites, Roti Chenai we bought a few different Indian sweets after trying some at the home we'd discovered the nice ones. Or so we thought. Jh loved some of them but they weren't as nice as what we''d tried in Klang a few months earlier. Still the atmosphere was great and it was a fun night for all. At least it seemed that way the day after when little India was like a ghost town, firework wrappers on the floor and shops closed but the smell of incense still filled the air.
The rest of our time here was spent eating our way through the Georgetown, from Char Koay Teow to Tandoori Chicken and of course many helpings of our favourite Roti Chenai / Bom.
Not the right photo but that's where we headed next. Can't find one of Penang... Sooorry. Google Image :)
