We left Ha Long Bay early and head back to the Hanoi on an extremely chaotic road. This road was so bad that we saw a moped accident; a bit morbid to say but I saw blood and a chalk outline of the body and there was money all over the road, which apparnetly the Vietnamese do to wish them well in heaven. There are apparnetly on average 30,000 people killed on moped every year in Vietnam, whci doesn't suprise me when you see how many of them there are.
Phil (our tour guide) took us on a city tour of Hanoi to get our bearings. It is a very chaotic city and definately has a French feel about it. For example the building have shutters, people are playing boulres and sitting smoking in coffee shops. Crossing the road in this crazy city was pretty stressful.
Tonight after dinner we head ot a cheap street bar and sat out on the street on dirty plastic chairs (all part of the experience though). I love this, well until the police drove through the streets and everyone rapidly packed away the chairs nad told us to get up. Then as soon as the police had gone by they proceeded to put the chairs back out. This was a repetitive story for the night until eventually the bar we were in was shut down for the night at midnight and the street were put into complete darkness. The police do this apparently either to show control or its communist rule; I'm not quite sure but it was pretty scary and weird.
The next day a few of us went out to do the city sites. It was a particularly dreary day with lots of drizzle, the streets were filthy. We went to see the home of Ho Chi Minh's body (the communist leader). His body is on display for all to see, but unfortunately it was closed today so we didn't get to see him. Then we went to a temple and finally to an old prison where some American soldiers were held in the war. They were actually looked after quite well here and were released which really suprised me. It was nice to hear a happy story.
I enjoyed my last Pho (noodle soup) of my journey, which was beef and hopefully beef, not dog which it looked like. Had a really chilled out afternoon in our lovely hotel room mainly because the weather was so rubbish. Had a bit of a beauty session with my Norwegian friend Nora who I often shared a room with.
Last super with my group tonight. I have a great trip with everyone. Stanely I didn't get too emotional saying bye to everyone, but I think this is bacause I have met so many amazing people throught my travels and have had to say so many goodbyes, that I think I am getting used to it.
So tommorow I fly home to Heathrow, which means travels....over!! Sad its over, but what a trio it has been...Awesome!!
