Inter-railing Europe
I'm alive, we've now made it to Italy. We arrived here in Rome yesterday after a huuuuuge journey involving two ferries, four trains, a coach and a taxi! We got an overnight ferry from Patras in Greece to Bari in Italy. Our inter-rail tickets include the ferry what we didn't know was that when they said 'deck class' it actually meant sleeping on the deck. Oh yes we curled up in our sleeping bags on the floor. Lovely! We ended up having to take two trains to get to Rome from Bari, the second train broke down in the middle of nowhere, well Tivoli which apparently is very nice. We didn't think so! Luckily we found some other backpacking people so we had safety in numbers when we had to fight our way (literally) on to the coach which took us to Rome. We then got hugely ripped off getting a taxi to our campsite because we couldn't face getting a metro train and then the bus. Argh! Then to make it even better the campsite had messed up our bookings so we ended up in two different rooms, which was very scary and weird. Don't worry me and Holly are once again joined at the hip, as the campsite has now given us a chalet for SIX people for the two of us. It even has a cooker and a freezer!!!!!!!!!!! The small things are amazing now.
In between all this stress we have actually managed to see some sights, today we got a sightseeing bus around Rome so we could see more of it. We also went to the Colesium which was quite expensive but worth the visit. Although we did both get confused as to what it was used for, yes the sun has gone to our heads! Don't worry we know all about it now!! We also saw part of the Vatican City including Swiss Guards in amusing uniforms, amazing!! We're going back tomorrow to see it all properly. Rome is very hot and busy right now, so there's some huge queues for the more popular sights.
Hope you're all ok and have all got your postcards from somewhere... i can't remember where i sent them from, maybe Greece i think!!!!
