Well, I feel that as I am leaving Melbourne tomorrow I should actually say something about it... But what to say. On the face of it Melbourne is a very agreeable city. Compact, well laid out, tidy, not too busy - all rather pleasent. But perhaps this is where it falls down. It's fairly dull.
The weather over the past few days has been lovely (about 22/23 degrees) and I found myself wishing I had something more picturesque to be gawping at. As it turned out, I went to the jailhouse, sorry 'Olde Gaol' for a snoop around, then saw some aboriginal art in a gallery (didn't really 'understand' it...)
Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed my time here. Perhaps I will have to return one day when my budget does not force me to push past all the delightful looking cafes and bars and wander into the 7/11 looking for some dried noodles...!
I only stayed for three nights in the city. Night one was in the 'windowless cell' as I shall now refer to it. One night was enough. The next few were spent holed up in The Exmouth Arms (or something similar to that) cleaning is something that this places sees as optional. Although the room did come complete with a window, it had just one curtain, where two would have been preferable and even this was half falling down. My bed chose to devour me in the night, upon waking my leg had lost all feeling and was crushed between the folds in the mattress. My room mate didn't appear to leave and stayed awake til 6am watching american sitcoms. Delightful.
Cut my losses after this and headed back to St Kilda for two nights of comfort! Who needs the city eh? Went to a pub quiz last night - my favourite of all the questions; 10% of Americans think Joan of Arc was married to who? Answers on a postcard to the usual address.
I fly to Sydney in the morning (nice early pick up of 6am) for another city... Think the Blue Mountains will be seen very soon!
Hope all well back home - ooh, laundry should be done! Laters xx
