Before I go off on a rant, I have to share this... there's been 5,230 hits on this blog so far! That is hilarious. Mum, how many times are you reading this thing?!
Anyway fans, sorry; friends (just kidding!) The Great Ocean Road. I booked myself on a 2 day trip, with no expectations. I was picked up at the ungodly hour of 6.50am - seriously, who decides this? So I started well having woken up all 5 of my room mates with last minute panic packing (didn't have time the night before) anyway, I was first to be collected and managed to seize the worst seat on the whole bus. Amazing.
Anyway, I'll keep this fairly brief - we set off on some back roads, aiming to join the Ocean road at the far end and work backwards - meaning we should miss all the other tourist crowds along the way. Great, except the 'back roads' gave us a puncture. So we limped into the next town and huddelled around some lukewarm tea whilst our bus was repaired. Luckily things improved after this.
Stopped off for loads of sights along the way. Including (in no particular order) Cheese World (words cannot describe), London Bridge (it fell down), The 12 Apostels (there are 11, or 13 depending how you count), Bells Beach for surfing champs (we got there too late and they'd gone home) and various other points here and there. All good.
Saw some koala bears, who apparently sleep for 20 hours a day and are born with an intolerance for the one food they eat (eycaliptus leaves). So much so, that their parents have to feed them their (hope you're not eating) their 'stool' so that they can build up an immunity to it. What a life eh!?
Whilst trying to spot some kangaroos I wandered about 3 feet off a path and got bitten by a huge ant (twice). Ok, that sounds lame. But it was really big. And red. And it hurt like hell. Eventually I was assured that I wasn't likely to die and the swelling would go down in a few hours. That's the problem with this place. There is so much that is just waiting to kill you - stuff that mearly maims is seen as trivial.
Had an awesome BBQ at our hostel and stayed in the biggest dorm room to date - with 13 beds. Felt like army barracks - naturally I got a pic of us all saluting at the end of our beds.
Don't really have a lot more to add. Pictures on their way, but this computer won't play ball. Just realised how many I have to upload. Crikey!
Hope all is well back home - leave me a message once in a while eh?! For 5,000 hits my 6 messages presents a particually poor ROI...
Much love xx
