Leg 5: race 8 : day 13
Woken at 5.30 was in a deep sleep and so cozy in my bunk with my sleeping bag round tight. Porridge for breakfast then on deck at 6am. The wind had died down so we took a reef out. Took it in turns to go down below as it was so cold.
We were going though the Yellow Sea and it was definitely a yellow colour although a dirty looking mud colour, it looked horrible after the clear blue seas we have had. Although not in the last few days.
Finished shift at 10.am had lunch then into bunk for my 8 hours off. It's so cold ! Have kept the same clothes on for a few days, boy I feel like I need a shower.
Was woken at 5.30pm and could smell cooking I thought it was morning and they were cooking pancakes but when I came into the galley they were serving Fish ! I had to ask what time it was and if morning or night! It was night! The days and nights all mingle into one. Even hard to remember what day it is.
Had dinner got dressed and went on deck. It was so cold and my feet felt like blocks of ice. My boots were wet inside and socks. Yuk ! Not nice. Took it in turns to come down to keep warm.
The wind had dropped in fact hardly any wind at all! Put the wind seeker up and managed to get to 6 knots.
Came off shift at 10pm made 2 loaves of bread and scones. It was so cold Down below so it was good having the oven on to help keep warm.
The schedules came through and we were in 7th place. Then we heard that Derry, garmin and Lmax had crossed the finish line. Felt a bit sad as we were with them at the start and holding 3rd place for a while. We have worked so hard but I think it was down to some tactical decisions. The crew have been frustrated too.
But at the end of the day I am not going to let this ruin things for me as I have really enjoyed the time at sea.
I have certainty never been experienced anything like it.
Went to bed at 2am listening to music whilst the boat gently rocked me to sleep. So different to what it was like the night of the storm.
