We arrived at Bangkok at 6.30am, earlier than expected. The weather was cooler than what we have been used to. We got a taxi for 80 THB to our hotel (Thai equivalent to a travelodge) which was a few minutes away. We could not check in until 1pm so we went to 'Central' bar restaurant for breakfast. We both had Phad Thai, it was not great as it was greasy and salty. This was a shame as Jay has eaten here many times before and the food used to be amazing.
After breakfast we shopped around the 'MBK Centre' and 'Siam Square'. Jay bought a Bangkok football top for 700 THB and Helen bought a Barcelona football top for her brother Mike for 500 THB.
We had a sushi buffet for lunch costing 288 THB each for all you can eat. We loved it as it was different food to what we have been eating on this trip, plus we love sushi! They even had a hotpot (like a fondue) with miso soup for us to cook what we choose from the conveyor belt. They had a variety of raw meat and fish for customers to cook.
After lunch we browsed around and found a massive food market, which was the biggest food market we have ever seen. We treated ourselves to a cheese soft cake, this was very light in texture and tasty.
After asking for directions at a tourist information office, we went off to find 'Pantip Plaza', this was a mall dedicated to selling electronics. Jay bought a new camera case and Helen bought a card reader USB Stick for a very good price, 100 THB (£2). After shopping we caught a tuk tuk back to 'Khaosan Road' for 150 THB. When we got back to our accommodation, we enquired about the options of how to get to Chiang Mai.
Helen checked our room before we paid for our stay at the 'Sawasdee Inn', it was a clean, basic room with a hot shower and fridge. We decided to stay and paid for the room. We had a much needed shower as we did not have the chance earlier in the day. We then got our damp clothes (from the rain in Koh Samui) washed at the laundrette for 30 THB per kilogram.
We explored the near vicinity, where Helen spotted a T-Shirt she liked and bought. And Jay bought a beanie hat from 'Khaosan Road', he also bought some mango sticky rice to try. It was delicious. Later on, Helen was hungry so we went back to our street to 'Popiang restaurant', she had noodle soup with chicken. They were very nice and tasted similar to how Helen's mum cooks them. Whilst Helen was eating, Jay spotted a beerlao poster in the restaurant. Jay checked whether they had any and they did, so he ordered one and we both shared it. Helen tried this for the first time and thought it was nice but she still prefers Leo beer.
