We flew into Rio at 3am yesterday morning. Since the last post (in Puno) we spent most of a day driving to La Paz (the capital of Bolivia). The border crossing took a few hours on the Peru side as it was very disorganised. We had to get a bit physical to stop the locals from pushing in front of our tour group. That night we had a farewell dinner with our tour group to send off the people leaving in La Paz. We made some good friends during the trip. The next day we we headed for the La Paz airport and embarked on 4 flights from La Paz to Iquique to Santiago to Sao Paulo and finally to Rio. In Sao Paulo airport we ate some sushi, something we would not have been confident to do on the street in South America. About half an hour later (on a flight), Kerry was sweating and almost passed out. The last 2 flights were not so pleasant for her as she didnt know which end to aim at the toilet.
Once in Rio, we had a pretty lazy day sleeping it off, just going for a bit of a stroll around the city. Today we have just been for a stroll around the bohemian suburb that we are staying in which is called Santa Theresa, it is pretty cool, a lot like brissy (st lucia) actually. This afternoon we are going to see a brazilian soccer match, it should be an experience.
Tomorrow we are going up sugarloaf mountain which you can see the whole of Rio from (including the giant christ statue). Will probly head to the beaches (cococabana and ipanema) after that to see the brazilian babes in bicinis.
The day after that we will embark on the 20 hour or so bus trip to Iguazu falls which lies on the Brazil/Argentina border. After spending about 2 days there we will get back on the bus and spend about another 20 hours getting to Buenos Aires where we have a few days before flying back to Aus!! (yay)
