Our first day ever in Australia and we spent it on The great Barrier Reef. What a way to kick off our Austalian Adventure. We set out this morning with some slight trepidation. Have been reading Bill Brysons excellent book on Down Under (thanks Min) and he is quite obsessed with all the lethal flora and fauna to be found in this beautiful country including 20 of the 23 most deadly snakes. He also describes in some depth what it is like to be stung by a box jelly fish saying that the stings are the most painful thing known to man and that if stung you keep screaming even when unconscious! To our relief we were told before getting into the water that this is not the season for the "stingers". We were able to relax then and enjoy the most fabulous snorkelling over a kaleidoscope of coral and fish on three different sites on the reef. The best way ever to get over jet lag.
Back at our hotel on four mile beach for a welcome supper. I had coral trout ( delicious) and David decided to eat the Austalian National emblem - kangaroo!
Putting our photos on this blog is proving a bit of a challenge at the moment. Wifi keeps cutting out and my iCloud has stopped sending photos from phone to pad. Any clues why anyone?
Still I will keep trying so hopefully pics to come anon
P.s no lethal creatures yet, in fact not so much as a fly or a midge. Off to the rain forest tomorrow so may find some there

Bruce & Janet Pics look great. Glad you're packing it all in and weather fine. GBR is fantastic isn't it? We couldn't get out on it from Cairns when we were there as too windy (managed it from further south though).
Bruce & Janet Re difficulty with uploading photos - we had a similar problem down there - couldn't always work out why, but definately needed a good full wifi signal.
Kate Norbury What a holiday - guess what here it's raining- guess what the forecast is rain- your blog and photos so far are the best thing happening to liven this really depressing weather which is spoiling so many things. Keep loving it and entering us at the same time Kate and Derek

Sharon Thwaites It all sounds amazing and it is very hard to believe that we were at the pub with you only a week ago. It has been raining all day here so it is almost as if you are on a different planet. Sorry, can't help with your tech issues. Do you have the Photo Transfer app?
Peter & Angela It all looks really hard, but then somebody's got to do it!
