Today i went into school that Jennie works at to help promote reading and also show the kids some bmx tricks. I borrowed Stan's bmx which well sweet, so light. All the kids were crazy and constantly wanting attention as well as praise. The school is in a poor area of auckland so the kids don't have much. In the morning jennie and i did assembly for the upper school, this involved 3 session where about 3 to 4 classes would sit in the assembly room and listen to us 2. Jennie began by introducing me and asked me what my fravourite book was. I had Rhoal Dahl revolting ryhmes, (love this book), and then read Goldielocks and the 3 bears. I enjoyed this part as i got to be expressive whilst talking. After, i did a some bmx tricks, i did a bunnyhop, x-up, attempted a footjam tailwhip and then the finale was hopping over jennie whilst she laid on the floor. Each time i got closer and closer to landing on her, would of been a disaster if this had happen. Yikes. Then at the end we had a question and answer time, this was brillant as some of the kids asked really good questions. After break i helped Jennie in the classroom, we did maths and also handwriting. Some of the children finished the tasks straight away we as others really struggled to even write. I did notice a couple would write some letters or numbers the wrong way round, which i found interesting as this could be a sign of dyslexia. At dinner i left school and cycled backhome which was a good 40mins. The sun was shining so couldn't face being in, rode down to the beach for a swim and chill out. Swim was so refreshing but i did see a jelly fish on my way back into the shore, that was a bit of a shock. Next week i have booked to go on a 5 day surf mission in Raglans, looking forward to it, so hopefully no jellyfish will get me there.
Might be off up the skytower tonight.
