Well today it was a very early start, as we all decided that we wanted to have a go at skiing. We had to leave at 5:45am! So I dragged myself out of bed, jumped in the shower and made my way to the common room for a cup of coffee. It took us about five hours to get to Jindabyne and I was not happy bunny along the way. I have never seen roads so damn windy in my whole life! Originally I was sitting about five rows back on the coach, so I could spread out on two seats, but I ended up having to sit up the front with the driver. Our driver (Joel) stopped the bus for a bit, so I could get some fresh air and oh my god was it fresh. It was half 7 in the morning and it was so cold! It made me feel better though, so we headed off again. When we arrived at Jindabyne we was given our ski gear. The girls all had a go at skiing and the boys and Joel done snow boarding.
After we got all of our ski gear we started the drive up into the Snowy Mountains and it took about half an hour. When we got there it was amazing, I have never seen so much snow. The sun was shining, the sky was pure blue and I was up in the mountains getting ready to ski, I couldn't believe what I was about to do! I thought I would have a little practice first on a very small slope down the bottom and Joel showed us the basics. He said that I was doing well and to try and go down one of the big slopes. I thought ok and was feeling quite adventurous, so thought I would give it a go. Trying to get to the ski lift though with my skis on was impossible and it took me a good ten minutes to get to it. When I finally got there I got on the lift and was pulled up the mountain, which I really liked as I got to relax and take in the views. I was feeling quite nervous, and watching everyone go down the slope with ease was not helping one bit. I decided not to go right up to the top and came off half way. I thought the best way to do it is just go for it, so I did and oh my god I have never moved so fast! I got half way down and then kind of done a somersault down the slope! So there I was in the middle of this mountain on my back in the snow, and then to top it all off about ten small kids went whizzing by me with smirks on their faces. I tried to get up about five times but it was so difficult, I was just about to give up when I saw our driver whizzing down on his board, so I shouted out to him and he came and rescued me. He wouldn't help me though because he said I needed to try and get up on my own. He said 'all you need to do is use your upper body strength and you will be able to stand up'! Well, all of you that know me will know that I have not one bit of upper body strength at all, so that didn't work at all. He ended up having to help me up in the end.
When I finally got down the mountain after about falling over another two times, I didn't think that skiing was for me, but I thought I'm here now so I might as well have another go. I ended up going down the slope about another ten times and I absolutely loved it! It was one of the best bits of the tour and I actually wasn't too bad at it in the end.
We was skiing for about four hours and afterwards we done a bit of sledging. By this time though my legs were killing me from my ski boots and I could hardly walk, so I headed back for the bus.
Our night stop over was in Jindabyne and we stayed in a motel. I had a room to share with the two boys and our room had a beautiful view over the lake. We then went and used the leisure centre. We was able to use the sauna and it was so nice to get in there after an afternoon of skiing, it made me feel so relaxed. After dinner though we were all so tired that we had an early night. The next morning was a bit of a later start at 8pm, so we had a big english breakfast and then headed off to Sydney! I have never ached so much in my whole entire life, I could feel every muscle in my body aching, and I have got the biggest bruise on my bum ever. However, it was totally worth it as I now absolutely love skiing!!! It was a brilliant day.
