Iguazu Falls are waterfalls (taller than Niagara) of the Iguazu River located on the border of the Brazilian State of Paraná and the Argentine Province of Misiones. The falls divide the river into the upper and lower Iguazu. The Iguazu River originates near the city of Curitiba. It flows through Brazil for most of its course. Below its confluence with the San Antonio River, the Iguazu River forms the boundary between Brazil and Argentina.
Guarani legend says that Iguazu Falls originated when a jealous forest god, enraged by a warrior escaping downriver by canoe with a young girl, caused the riverbed to collapse in front of the lovers, producing precipitous falls over which the girl fell and, at their base, turned into a rock. The warrior survived as a tree overlooking his fallen lover.
We were up at 7, had breakfast and at the bus stop by 8! We got to the falls around 8.30 and headed straight to do the lower circuit (we were told it would be less busy) it was great, no one else was around so we got some great pics. We got a little boat over to an island called Isla Grande San Martin where we did a little hike then got the boat back. We were walking to do the upper circuit and stopped for some lunch where Joe was surrounded by Coatis trying to steal his sandwich out his hand and trying to open his bag for the crisps!
As we'd done half the falls by 11.30 I suggested we could go back to the hostel to watch the football and come back for the afternoon. So we began walking to the exit when we spotted a Sheraton hotel in the middle of the park! So we ended up going in to find a bar to watch the football. £2.60 for a coke and £3.20 for a beer we had to make them last the whole game. We nearly got caught out when asked our room number for the drinks to be put on but Joe quickly said 'we'll pay cash!' After Spurs beating Liverpool 2-0 we headed back to the falls, did the upper circuit then got the train to the devils throat.
It was really busy at Devils throat so a few quick pics and we decided to head back to the hostel; the weather hadn't been great either and it was getting quite cold!
Back at the hostel we had some dinner, watched a film then packed our bags ready to head to Brazil tomorrow - our last country!!
