Hi All,
Well we have made it back to London after our 14 day tour around Europe!! It was awesum, and extremly tiring - but we did see a lot. The group we went with were really cool, and we had a crazy Italian tour leader so was great fun. Spent a lot of time sitting on a bus travelling, and now have lots of places we want to go back too!!
We left London on the 16th of April, and went to France on the Eurotrain (under the sea), as the ferry's were on strike, which was a new experience!! Once in France we headed to Paris. In Paris we walked around all day, walked up the eifle tower and went to the Notre Dame. We went on a bike tour which was awesum (had a fantastic american leader), although I had not ridden a bike in years, and paris roads were crazy!! That night we went to a French Caberet, the costumes were fantastic, however was extremly expensive to drink (16euro for 1 beer).
The next day we were off to Switzerland, and we stayed in a camping ground. It had one of top decks own chefs at it, and that always meant great food!! During the day we took a train up the Jungfraujoch (tallest mountain in Europe). It was super cold and a snow storm meant that we couldnt see much which was a bit disppointing!! I really wanted to go sleding with huskys - but the weather did not permit!!
Next we were off to Italy, for 1 night in Florence. On the way there we stopped at Pisa to see the leaning tower! Lots of Africans there trying to sell us 'genuine' gucci handbags and glasses. As soon as we stepped off the bus about 20 swarmed us and we had to push our way through. At florence we went out to a kareoke bar. In the morning we had a walking tour of flourence, then were back on the bus to go to Rome.
We had a night tour of Rome, then the next morning we went to the Vatican City. The Pope comes to speak every Wednesday, and as it was a wednesday we got to see him. Paul and I ended up with some good photos, as we were near the front of the mobs of people! Was crazy. Then we toured around the Vatican City to see the art, then went to the colusseum, and then went to a Munk Church which was creepy. 4000 munks are under the church, and their bones are all displayed in patterns over the wall!
After Rome we made our way to Venice, which is an awesum city, surrounded by canals. The first night there we had a toga party which was really fun, and extremly late night! In the moring we had a walking tour around Venice, and the went for a gondola ride around the canals. St Mark's square was scary with all the pigeons landing on people - as you can imagine I was freaked out and had to hide behind Paul all day! We went up the bell tower to look at the city also which was cool.
Then it was off to Austria, which was much like NZ. We hired bikes and biked between towns for the day to look at the sights! I went with a group of boys which was a bad idea - i just about died and bike seats are so uncomfy! Then to Germany, where we stayed stayed in a castle (yah I love castles). Then to Amsterdam for 2 nights. It rained in Amsterdam which wasnt very fun. By this stage we were getting extremly tired. We did a bike tour of the city, then just went to museums in the arvo.
On the way back to London we stopped off in Belgium for a bit at brugge, then went and boared the ferry at Calais in France. We said goodbye to our bus driver, and floated to Dover on a very flash boat - which even had shops!!
Then back to London - we have to start the real job hunt now!! Had a great time on tour though, can't wait for the next (after we find jobs hehe).
Seeyas!!
Love Haz and Paul
