21st to 23rd March The fantastic Festival of the Arts at ALA -
Following our trip to Cape Town, we had a busy week in the run up to the big 3 day Festival of the Arts. (Sunday, Monday, Tuesday)
Shena put on a display of the students artworks in the Foyer of the Auditorium where there was to be Choir and Dance Performances and a Play put on over the 3 days. There were invited guests from out of the schooland it was quite a festival. Cousin Jane came with a friend (Delia) and immediately immersed herself in a group of (male) students.
The students were very enthusiastic and the art works were well received. We offered some of the works for sale, and sold 5 works; the proceeds went to fund the arts department with materials, so we were able to stock up with some goodies after the festival.Jack did a great job mounting the works which Shena had framed as we were not allowed to put any nails in the wall - so we hung them on easels. A large silk painting which the students had made was also on display.
We also did a display on the back wall of the stage for the dancers; it turned out OK . (Actually, it was great - Ed).The Dean seemed to be pleased with the student's work and the whole festival was great for the students who had just finished their exams. The final day of the festival was the awards evening, and Shena arranged to say farewell to the assembly then, as many students were going on mid semester break after that, and there would not be many students left in school for the following week.
