Escorted in to an easyjet orange half tank, half truck, which drove us to the Cerro Negro volcano, the youngest volcano in central America, and one which has erupted every few years for the past 200 years or so. Question over what was more scary - the fact that it was overdue an eruption combined with the dodgy measuring equipment, or the fact we were about to throw ourselves down the side of the volcano on what seemed to be an extremely skinny garden shed door. Our fears were lessened after we were told how to brake - put your feet down - brilliant. At 55km per hour, braking with your feet is slightly concerning, but given the amount of lava flying at you, at least you can't tell exactly how quick you're going. We somehow survived, with only a few minor scrapes for our troubles, and were rewarded with cervezas and mojitos. Went for lunch looking like a chimney sweep and then dipped in the pool to clean off.
Spent a pretty scary evening hoping we wouldn't get hit by any of the many daggers of lightning that were striking all around us, in what was by far and away the biggest storm of our travels... so far...
