Arrived in Foz Do Iguacu at about 8.30am, later than scheduled, but this seems to be the norm. After hopping on a local bus, dodgy directions on the hostel website meant we had to walk rather a long way in the heat with our growing collection of bags, not appreciated after having travelled for 18 hours already.
However after freshening up and 2 more buses we were in the Iguacu falls national park on the Brazilian side of the Rio Iguacu, getting drenched by the cascading water. The number of different falls and the sheer volume of water is immense. The rainbows that form in the mist, the circling birds of prey and surrounding rainforest all adds to the beauty. The view is spoiled only by cameras jostling for position in front of your nose and the army of tourists on the Argentinian side of the river (yes, we will be amongst them tomorrow!). The trails through the forested areas are great for butterfly, centipede, and spider spotting, as well as the different views of the falls. The highlight though was the family of racoons that we kept bumping in to, the parents trying to keep the 5 or 6 little ones under control. Funny to see mother racoon attack an American tourist's lunch like it was the last Panatone she was ever going to have.
Back at the hostel, discovering the oven was out of order made our pizza making somewhat interesting, but it all worked out rather nicely.
