Its our last day in Sydney today as we start our Oz Exp tour tomorrow (early might i add!) up the east coast.
Sydney has been good, we got picked up from the airport by Dave's dad Yorkie which was sooo nice to see a familiar face - he's hired a camper van which he calls the 'green goddess' and is here for a month. The following day Yorkie picked us up and we all took a drive around the coast and visited Bondi beach - as the the next day (Xmas eve) we got up early and all three of us took off to the Blue Mountains - i managed to get a few Zzzz in the back of the van whilst Dave and Yorkie navigated, the blue mountains were amazing, so beautiful, we ended up going on this massive four hour walk only to end up the other side of the mountains to the green goddess with an empty water bottle and no purse to buy any drinks :-( Luckily tho we managed to talk some nice American lady into driving us back to the van! The long walk however did mean that we saw Wentworth falls which was very much worth it (just wish we all hadn't taken the piss out of the very sweaty people that had climbed up before us!!)
Xmas day we went to Manley Beach (Shelly Bay) and met some peeps we met in Thailand - we had a BBQ with kangaroo steaks! Day was going well until it rained but we found some shelter and started up the BBQ and music again - tho it was a good day we both did miss home and said we prob wouldn't leave it again over Xmas. Boxing day we took a walk around Sydney to get our bearings as up till now we had been chauffeured around and in the evening we met up with our aussie friend who we met in Africa (Bruce Forsyth lookalike) and he took me to see NEW MOON!!!! loved it then we met up with Dave after for some drinks - good to catch up. the following day we got the ferry over to Manley beach and met our other favourite aussie Miss Anna Banana and she took us for lunch overlooking the sea - very nice, then we went for drinks with Charlotte too - so basically had another lazy day :-) After a few chilled days we decided to do the tourist thing and hopped on the big red bus (so classy) but did mean we got to see Darling Harbour, Hyde Park etc and we stopped off and had a very expensive few beers (well the boys did - i had a coke!) by the Opera house.
Then came the time for New Years eve!! - Such a long day but the fireworks were fab, we left our hostel at 7.30 and managed to join the already massive queue - apparently only the first 20'000 were going to be let in, we met up with Charlotte and co in the queue and got into the park around 11.30 (gates opened at 10) once inside we started looking for a good spot but saw another queue to get right down the front so joined that and by 12.30 (after moving some bins so get an even better spot) we was right at the front so 5hrs of queuing paid off. Fireworks weren't till 9 but being down the front it meant only a limited amount of people with wristbands could get in so meant no queuing for drinks and food. After a few plates of chips and gravy and beverages we were ready for the fireworks (oh and a few drunken phone calls!) they started at 9 and went on and off till the New Year - we tried to take pics and videos but didn't do it justice - 5 million dollars were spent on those fireworks!!
The next day we had our Sydney Bridge climb booked and all managed to pass the breath test! After getting into our sexy suite and sexy shoes for Dave too (much to mine and Yorkie's amusement!) we were ready to climb, we had a really good guide who told us loads of info (did you know the sydney opera house weighs 3 times MORE then the bridge!!) and he let us go at the front as it was Yorkie's b-day too! The part before you get on the actual arch is see through grates (and very bloody high) and i didn't realise that i have a little fear of heights so as Dave and Yorkie are running off with the guide i'm holding up the rest of the group - ooops, once on the arch i was fine though. The Bridge has 6 lanes of traffic, a bus lane and a train track so as we were coming down a train went over our heads - a bit worrying!! We booked the 9.25pm climb so didn't get down till 12.45 - we then had to say goodbye to Yorkie as he had to make his way back to Brisbane to catch his flight in the next few days.
Yesterday i went with Charlotte to Summer Bay home of 'Home and Away' not a big fan myself but as i'm a massive tourist i went along for the day - Dave stayed in Sydney and had another chilled day. Last night we met up with Anna Banana again and she took us to 'The Rocks' and a place called Pancake on the rocks which was lurrvley and she treated us to dinner - so thanks muchly hun. Today is our last day so we are just updating and generally getting prepared for the off tomorrow.
Will update again from our next stop (not to sure where yet, maybe Byron Bay?)
