After leaving Christchurch, we went to Westport, it was completeley dead there, nothing to do so we went out for dinner with some people from the bus then headed back for an early night!! (I know doesnt happen often)
The next day we headed to Lake Mahinipua on the way we did some really nice walks, the 1st to a seal colony. The walk was beautiful, on oneside you had the Ocean and the other mountains and farmland the sun was shinning for the 1st time since being in NZ, it was gorgeous.
The Seal colony was good as well although it stunk and some of them were quite difficult to see as they were the same colour as the rocks!! After the walk got back on the bus. We stopped for lunch at a place called pancake rocks where we did another short walk.
We went to the lookout over pancake rocks (a rock formation in the Sea) then to a place called the blowhole which obviousley looked like a whale blowing water up. It was really nice to be out in the sun.
That evening we stayed in Mahinipua hotel (if you can call it that) it is nicknamed the poo pub!! It was ok but looked like one of those motels you wouldnt stop at even if you were knackered. It was much better than it looked from the outside though.
When we arrived we had a few beers in the garden then headed to check out the lake, it was really beautiful and the water was a lot warmer than the sea. We headed back for our dinner then had to go and make our costumes! It was fancy dress that evening and the theme was 'plastic fantastic' which we didnt really know what that meant. I went as a witch and just wore a black binliner and a witches hat which I had bought at the doller shop that day and Kat went as a nurse and wore a white binliner and put a red cross on the front and had a pack of doctors equipment that she bought in the day.
It was hilarious, everyone made an effort, some a bit too much, there was a pirate, an egyptian, a hoola girl, a gimp, loads of guys dressed as women I dont know where the plastic came in they obviousley just wanted to go in drag it was hilarious. After the pub we headed down to the lake and went for a swim it was gorgeous, really warm and the stars were really bright!! On the way to the lake there were hundreds of glow worms too which was cool.
