Today we drove to Avignon. Around Avignon is a big wall. In the olden days the wall was there to keep the people safe. We drove into the old city through an entrance in the wall. It was very busy with narrow streets. We went to a big food market. There were lots of different types of food. There was seafood, fruit and vegetables, meat, cheese, pasta and sweets and lots more. We bought some food for a picnic lunch. We had prawns, a big baguette, cheese, chicken, rice, strawberries and macaroons. We had to walk up lots of steps to a garden which is the highest point of Avignon. From up there we could see all of Avignon. After lunch we walked through the town. There was a big church and a big palace where a Pope lived. After Avignon we drove to another town called Saint Remy Provence to have dinner with friends, Josh and Khan. Van Gogh a painter painted some of his famous paintings in the area such as 'Starry Night'. He was inspired by the beauty of the area and the simplicity of country life.
