Coming towards the end of our trip up the East Coast, we made it to Cairns (3860km's). We stayed there for one night, and then headed straight to Cape Tribulation (3982km's). If you drive about 10 minutes north of Cairns, then suddenly the views just become outstanding. It is just sea and nothing but sea for miles, and gorgeous winding roads. We drove up to Cape Tribulation and drove through to the top. The whole place is beautiful, and really calm. We stayed there the night, and the next morning I was lucky enough to go horse riding. We rode along the beach and the more advanced were allowed to canter in the shallow water. It was fabulous. The we took the horse into the Rainforest and the more advanced of us went on faster. It was so much fun, and we ended the day by galloping the entire length of a 2km field. It was fantastic, although after not riding for so long, my legs were pretty wobbly at the end!!We then went to the Mossman Gorge and did the hour trek through the stunning Aboriginal rainforest. We then returned to the ridiculously muggy Cairns, where we had to empty, clean and return the van. I sweated so much that day that I think I could of died - if not from lack of water, then definitely from embarrassment. It was horrible!! We finally returned the van, and heaved a sigh of relief that everything was fine!!The next day I had booked a boat trip out on The Great Barrier Reef, which was AMAZING!! One of the best bits of the whole trip for sure. I met a really sweet guy called Chris from America, and he hadn't snorkeled before, so we decided to buddy up. The different reefs were amazing (we did three different stops), and we saw loads of gorgeous fish, and a huge reef shark almost straight away. We found Nemo and his dad, and then saw a huge black eel and a stingray!! I couldn't believe it. Our final hope was to see a turtle before the day was out. A guy overheard me in the water, and said there was a turtle sleeping just below where they were. As we swum over the turtle was swimming up to the surface for air!! It was stunning, with bits of red on its back. We were literally an inch from it, and it seemed really chilled with us. I was so gutted cos I had been so snapper-happy the rest of the day, that I had run out of photo's. A fabulous day though! The next day I flew into Sydney and spent the night with friends in Bondi again, only to fly out the next day to Fiji . . .
