Our Travels
We arrived in Santiago....eventually. We didnt have the greatest first day as we managed to get taken for a ride (excuse the pun) by a taxi driver and his friend who were considerably more awake than us at the early hour of the morning and we left the taxi having managed to pay double what we should have. We still havnt been able to work out how! The morning got worse when matt realised he had lost his phone and camera chargers, and his usb cable for his camera. Pretty eventful for the first morning. However, the day got better and Santiago turned out to be a very pretty city, with another quite impressive subway system. However we did encounter another disappointment when we discovered that it was going to cost us 350 pounds each to fly from Santiago to Lima like we had planned. So now we are faced with another mammoth bus journey to travel the length of chile and half of Peru. The journey will take about 2 days in total. Luckily we got here early so we are still leaving ourselves plenty of time to get the most out of the rest of our trip.
Day 2 was much better. We first of all had another look around the city before visiting the top of a hill overlooking Santiago where there is quite an impressive statue of the Virgin Mary. There were also specatcular views of the city and surrounding mountains...only to be spoilt a bit by the thick fog that hugs the top of Santiagos high rise buildings. Tomorrow morning we travel on to Arica in the north of chile in the first leg of our next bus journey. There may be more to tell then...
