Meikles Adventure
Well what a day's driving. Woken up this morning again by the birds in the trees around the Wenlock River. One crow yelled out overhead for a good hour or more! Sach got outdoors early enough to see the largest Australian cockatoo - a Palm Cockatoo.
Our next door neighbours, internet satellite dish installers for the far north, came over for a chat & to burn one of their huge package boxes on our fire Sach had gotten burning again this morning. Sounds like it would be a pretty profitable business if the guy wanted to get it off the ground badly enough - satellite internet installation provided from the government to every home in Australia, regardless of where you live - I did not know that that was something the government would provide.
We headed off on the road about 9:30. Up to Bramwell Station to fill up & then onto the Old Telegraph Track. A few hairy crossings, deep water, pretty large drop offs & climbs on the other side, potholes, corrugations & then of course the Gunshot Creek. To be fair we could have gone on the bypass track around it - but of course it had to be done (would you have ever thought we wouldn't be going down that steep decline?!) Pretty hectic drop down - and all around the various paths people had tried to get across - crazy stuff!
There were a couple of vans at the bottom of the pass - they'd just taken a couple of hours getting one car almost on its side down one track & winching it the rest of the way and the other car down another track & then winching the trailer down on its own. Oh dear!
Sach did super though, came all the way down only to get the front of the car stuck in the mud at the bottom of the track, almost vertical in the air. Jaz waking up from being fast asleep when he climbed out (literally) & so I had to climb up to get her out, she was not too happy! Cheered up quickly enough though when her & Tenille got to have a bit of a swim in the water. Up and out of there pretty quickly - half hour possibly(?) - but we did it - or rather - Sach did it - he's de man!!
Stopped after another couple of river crossings to make a bite for lunch and then onto Fruit Bat Falls. Wow - absolutely fantastic falls - that we could swim made the world seem like a very good place right now too!! Just nowhere to swim up here with all these crocs and marine stingers - life's hell for us creatures of leisure!!
A little later headed off to camp at Elliot/Twin Falls - only time for setup and on to dinner - we'll see these falls tomorrow...

Lisa Looking gorgeous you guys...all of you....:)
Cisca I really admire your adventurousness and Sach's driving skills!! - In the Merriam Webster dictionary online the word adventurous stands for: disposed to seek adventure with the new and unknown! And that is exactly what you are doing. Wonderful to be able to follow your footsteps and driving tracks through the great land of Oz. Love from Holland, Cis
