Singularly labeled as a nightmare scenario for all
the whole nation was under attack, in a standstill
chaos in Manhattan erupted where the twin towers were
oh, that was like the end of the world for everyone.
Watching on television the landmark towers collapsed
choking clouds of smoke, debris and dust billowed
pandemonium in Lower Manhattan for hours
most were panicking, screaming, and crying.
Subway and bus services were halted that day
three major airports were closed, tunnels were sealed
no vehicles moving, everybody seemed frozen
New York City was indeed in a chaotic scene.
We're all numb by the carnage of death tolls
we're all frightened by the threat of terrorism
'twas like the fall of Babylon, the massive destruction
with skyscrapers and plane crashing into them.
The nation's capital was in great danger, chaos
the one hundred ten-story World Trade Center
home to about 50,000 workers was hit by the airliner
with Pentagon in Washington by another hijacked plane.
The heart of America's military and commercial identity
a great disaster shattered the nerves of the whole country
its unfolding event engulfed everyone with sorrow and fear
oh, such a mark in history that no one could miss it.
The shockwaves it brought carried us to be generous
it was like a connecting link, our bridge to reach out
with a flame of love and solidarity with the afflicted
touched our hearts and we invoked God's love.
'Twas extremely powerful and moving to everyone
church and society worked hand in hand this time
with close affinity and solidarity with those who died
a measure of love that changed the nation's spectrum.
