Very early start today to be collected at 6.30 to go ... Wait for it.. Sky diving!
After a very adventurous 3 hour drive to mission beach ( the driver didn't seem to have a clue where he was going or at time how to drive a coach) we arrived at the sky dive centre.
On arrival we registered and watched the safety video. The registering process began to slow down as the weather closed in and rain and clouds took over the sky! My heart sank as they told us it wasn't looking hopefull and sent us to check into our hostel.
We dumped our bags, chose our beds and settled in by reading our books ... I soon fell asleep. At roughly 12 I was woken up to hear that the sky dive was back on and that we were too return to the centre woo hoo!
We were put into group four, the final group as we were staying in the local area. I wasn't feeling too nervous until Laura and I went to watch another group landing...seeing the tiny white dots of people falling from the clouds was enough to set my stomache going.
It came to our group and the clouds were coming in! We still suited up and I met Dave (my parachute man). We did some practicing of jump positions before filming an interview for my DVD (cringe).
On the bus we got and transported to the air base were we got straight into the plane. We were told that they hopes to find a patch of clear sky where it would be safe to jump. And find that space we did! The orange light lit in the plane and we all put on our goggles... Then the red and we held onto your parachutes, then green! The first person was out the door! I was the penultimate person to leave the plane... Crickey do you fall fast in those first few seconds... Tumbling through the air this way and that. I had no idea which was up and my heart was in my throat, my stomache doing an acrobatic display, not just somersaults. We straightened out and Dave tapped me on the shoulder, my signal to releases grasp on the straps and open my arms. This was followed by a few fall of roughly a minute before Dave releases the parachute and we were pulled up further into the air. This was insane. It felt like flying, the sights were incredible as we soared left and right through the air. After a couple of minutes we begun to descend quicker and I was told to hold my legs up as we approached the beach to land. On landing I couldn't wipe the smile off my face (to be honest I couldn't do that the whole way down) I was so proud of myself!
After collecting out DVD we headed back to the hostel for and early dinner of jacket potato and tuna mayo and an early night! Sky diving sure takes it our of you!
