Today's the day we fly to cairns. We got up early with no worries about tip toeing around the only room mate in bed (the other were up for work) as she came into the hostel at stupid o'clock making every single noise possible! Serves her right! Usually I'm very polite in dorms and we all understand that people will be coming and going at all times ... That's just how it is, but this case was just ridiculous!
Any who we caught our shuttle bus to the airport and sat for some breakfast whilst we waited for our check in to open. As we cued we sized our luggage up compared to those around us and decided we were probably going to get hammered with charges for overweight baggage considering it was a domestic flight as in thailand. Luckily... No such problem occurred. The only issue we had was my doing... As I packed in such a hurry and just through things wherever they would fit... I completely forgot if left my nail kit, with scissors, in my hand luggage! Oops!! Luckily it was a young person behind the computer who tutted jokingly and laughed as he went through my bag to remove said scissors.
We mooched around duty free (spritzed some perfume to freshen up) and headed for the gate to await our slightly delayed flight. We ended up running 45 minutes late, but we had no where to be. We had a good chuckle at the Asian lady sat next to me. Stereotypical yes, but also true about the peace sign in all of the many pictures they were taking... But what amused us most were the countless pictures of her bag under the plane seat she seemed intent on taking from all angles... Each to their own I say.
Once we had landed we easily found our shuttle and arrived at Gillighans, our hostel for the next few nights. On checking in, we were informed we had been upgraded from an eight bed dorm to a six bed dorm. Woooo 2 less people fighting for the bathroom. This hostel is more of a resort ... The building itself looks more like a hotel, there's a pool, bar and a club. There are also tv/ chill out areas and kitchens on every floor so now crowding for the hob and our room even has an outdoor area on a balcony. All in all a lovely hostel!
We ventured downstairs to book some tours and about an hour later we had booked nearly everything for our trip in oz! (After a bit of reorganising to ensure we could see the Great Barrier Reef... Left it a little late to book!) so reef, uncle Brian's for waterfalls, sky dive and fraser island all sorted along with the whitsundays which we organised earlier.
We popped back to the room to grab our dirty clothes to go launder... Nina,a Swiss girl from our form joined us and we later went and got some dinner together. Not bad at all... Pay for a drink (AUD4.50 for a beer) and get the daily meal free. Today was roast chicken with mash and mushy peas... Tasty and a decent portion!
We hung around the bar area for a bit, watching the entertainment which included an air guitar contest! After this we called it a night as we had an early start with uncle Brian!
