What a week in Singapore! Absolutely amazing hanging out with close mates and seeing the engagement of our friends! And then an awesome New Years with Nic who is a Greta gal herself and one of my oldest friends!
I caught the bus from KL to Singapore which was cool! Took bloody ages to get through immigration but it's the first time I've crossed a land border and had to go through all the passport and security checks so it was good fun - just took ages unfortunately, almost 2 hours standing in queues! Dax picked me up from the bus station and I stayed with him a couple of nights. On Friday once we had dumped my bag we went around to Kamran's house for dinner and caught up with all his cousins. Really great just hanging out!!
Saturday morning we went to the temple as part of Rosh and Dev's engagement. Everyone was dressed so nicely and the ceremony was really nice to see as it's something I hadn't been to before. Then we had some lunch downstairs before heading off for the afternoon. Not gonna lie, I did nap most the afternoon - these events are hard to keep up with! At night time was the engagement party at the Singapore Cricket Club which was a beautiful venue and everyone there had such a lovely night! There were some traditional aspects like presenting of the bride-to-be and gift giving then a whole lot of eating, drinking and dancing! It was the best night I've had all year - so great knowing most the people in the room and having banger after banger from the DJ!! We even went and after-partied which went til wayyy later than I expected but was an absolute blast!
Sunday we had a chilled day catching up on sleep and Dax took me to a local spot to grab some food and a drink. In the evening Rosh invited us to her parents house to mingle with her family some more and eat some really great food!! It was a lot more relaxed and I enjoyed chatting to the parents of both Dev and Rosh, as well as hanging out with Kamran's cousins some more!
Monday was Christmas and whilst it was hard being away from the fam I had an awesome day out and about in Singapore. Dax left early morning and I headed to Kamran's place. During the day we went out and roamed around Marina Bay with Karena and some of the cousins, took some great photos! Today was Kevin and Aneet's daughters first birthday which was pretty special - a birthday on Christmas! In the evening we all celebrated at Kamran's house which went quite late again haha! We actually missed saying bye on Tuesday so a lot of the Malaysian family as they headed back.
Tuesday through to Friday were super chill! We just hung around Kamrans house. We did some swimming in the complex's pool and they took me for local lunch. On Wednesday Kamran, Charmaine and I went to Sentosa for the afternoon which was one part of Singapore I had never visited! We just had a drink and saw the big Merlion - very chilled day. For dinner we went to a cool local place and ate wayyy too much but was really great!
On Saturday Kamran's family dropped me off to my hostel in the afternoon. I was waiting for Nic to fly in so took myself out for a nice dinner in the city! I headed out to the airport and waited for Nic to land. It was a bit after midnight as we left the airport so we got on one of the shared mini buses that took us around the city dropping off the others, then finishing with us.
Sunday was a full on day to end the year but absolutely fantastic! Nic and I headed out for local lunch then made our way across to Gardens by the Bay. I have been there a couple of times but never inside the domes so that was really cool!! I was glad the rain eased off a bit in the afternoon, it meant we could go get some photos at Marina Barrage and wander the gardens a bit more. We went to see the 8pm fireworks on the Marina which was really cool - but so many people even at that time! We grabbed a quick dinner at the foodcourt then headed back to our hostel and changed. For midnight we went around to Kamran's house and it was just him, Karena, Charmaine, Nic and I. It was super nice to spend the night with friends and we did a champagne toast to bring in 2018!!!
On Monday Nic and I just had food near our hostel then headed out to the airport to catch our bus. We planned a roaming tour of Malaysia since I've done so much outside travel but not seen all the highlights of Malaysia itself! First stop: Johor!
