setting off from hannover at half 7 and a late night before we were exhausted on the train grainne slept nearly the full way but i wasnt able to get comfortable. we aimed to go to the ´10.30am free tour which meant we had to practically run to and from the hostel to get there in time. on the way there we discovered that our tour was not until 11am so our efforts in rushing was for nothing. while we were waiting for the tour a random choir built up at the side of the road, sang a song and then cycled off while still singing, crazy. the tour was reallz interesting seeing the brandenburg gate, the wall, hitlers bunker site, nazi buildings, checkpoint charlie etc... during the tour saw one of my old flatmates which was really weird and a massive coincidence. the tour guide was really good and told us loads wed never even heard about but we only gave a 5€ tip because the group was massive so shed have enough. after the tour, we went back to checkpoint charlie to get a passport stamp because we wouldnt get one from this trip atall otherwise. we grapped a quick burger from mcdonalds then headed for a part of the wall that was still standing in the middle of berlin. we looked to see if we could chisel a bit off, but it wasnt happening, but inbetween two huge pieces, the wall had broken away and we managed to salvage a few pieces so that we can say we have a genuine piece of the berlin wall. we headed home so that we could eat, write on the east side gallerz and get ready for the bar crawl. we set off at half 6 to the wall but when we got there writing on it was forbidden so we had to sneakily just write our initials then run away quickly. on the way back we had a shnitzle kebab which was really nice and really cheap. however by now we had been out for nearly two hours so missed the bar crawl, gutted. so then we bought some berlin beer from the shop to drink at the hostel and went to bed when i was talking to grainne but noticed she had actually fallen asleep.
