These blogs are just to make our whole blog a complete collection of where we have been travelling together.
This was our first holiday together aged 16 with mum and paul. We went to Cairo for a day trip and to be honest it was a horrible experience from start to finish. I think we all would agree we wouldn't do it like that again if we were to do it again. Hopefully Thomas cook has changed this trip by now but I highly doubt it.
Firstly we arrived off the plane and no one was there to meet our 30 group tour. He was around half an hour Kate which means we then had to rush everywhere because he started the day late.
First we went to see the pyramids he gave us less than five minutes to take photos before we were all shoved down a tiny mini pyramid which was actually quite interesting. In giza there are the three famous pyramids and then 3 very small ones that don't even really look like pyramids.
Next we went to this museum which housed a giant boat that was excavated beside the pyramids. The guide hadn't brought enough money for the whole group so us 4 had to wait outside whilst he went back to the coach to get more money. Then when he finally cane back he had only brought enough money for two people. So me and Dan went in whilst mum and Paul waited outside. We had already wasted over ten minutes waiting for the guy. And it wasn't that impressive to say the pyramids were right outside. Next we drive to a viewing platform to see them all from afar. But weirdly our camera broke so from this moment on we have no photos of anything which is a shame.
Finally we went to go see the sphinx. Me and dans wanted to go inside a bug pyramid which we were told we could do but rather then sort it out while people were in the museum he waited till we got all down to the sphinx. So us three me Dan and the guide then had to hike right back to where we started. Only to then be told the tickets had been sold out. What a waste of time. We had then missed most of our allocated time at the sphinx for nothing.
Have we seen the pyramids? Yes but I definitely think we both would want to do it again independently and spend the whole day there.
Next we stopped for lunch at none other then the hard Rock cafe which we thought would at least gave decent food. Nope it was a horrible buffet where the food had been left out way too long.
In the afternoon we stopped at the world famous Cairo museum which is absolutely full of so many Egyptian artifacts. But our guide wanted us in and out as quickly as possible. He practically ran to show us the Tutankhamen exhibition. In the process losing half the group for going to quickly so then the rest of us just had to wait around for 20 mins whilst he tried to find them. The exhibition was good though and one of the things Dan really wanted to see but his actual body is in the valley of the kings.
Its fair to say after this fiasco everyone on the tour group was thoroughly annoyed. Finally we stopped off at a mosque for the grand total of ten minutes so there really wasn't any point as there was no chance to see anything.
In the evening we that dropped off at the airport really late and got rushed onto the plane. We needed our ticket stubs from our morning flight to prove we were on the plane but no one had told us this and half the people had thrown them away.
Later mum sent a letter of complaint to Thomas cook but did we hear anything back? No of course not.
One day we will definitely have to go back to Cairo again.
