Botswana is a really cool country its only got like 2 million people but its as big as France so its lots of empty nothingness. We bush camped the first night which was amazing and you could see the milky way in the sky because its so dark. We then went to Maun to go to the Okovanga delta, which is just like a big swamp.
You get there in a african gondola called a mokoro and get absolutley covered in bugs it is disgusting- if I would have known I would have thought twice about going on the trip or at least been more prepared and covered up so bugs didn't actually touch my skin. After mokoroing for 2 hours we stopped in the swamp and set up camp. We then went on a sunset game walk and saw some elephants and learnt about the different plants and what they do everything seems to cure toothaches and stomach aches. We cooked curry on an open fire and shared marhmallows with the guides and mokoro polers.
The next day we got up at 5 am to do a sun rise game walk and saw a lot more wildlife. We saw wildebeest herd running around apprently they just start running around randomly all the time. Then we saw some antelope and zebra and some more elephants shaking trees to get the fruits down. We also saw a giraffe skeleton but no giraffes. The rest of the day we tried to pole the mokoros ourselves which is really hard to do and Keiran fell in. We also swam in part of the delta but it was full of elephant poo so I didnt want to get my bikini wet but Dan put his whole head in. In the evening we went to a hippo pool but there we no hippos so we ate some lilly pad fruit which was absolutley disgusting. The guide said it cured aids. We werent sure whether he took this seriously or not. That night the guides sang songs for us round the camp fire and so we decided to sing ten green bottles which I dont think they enjoyed as much as we enjoyed their singing. The next day we returned through the swamp covered in bugs and spiders again but it was worth it.
