Rownd y Byd efo Helen a Fiona!!
Hello there! We made it to Hervey Bay, and within half hour of arriving our hostel we had signed up for an adventure!! A couple nights camping on Fraser Island and driving a 4X4 along the beach and sandy tracks sounded like fun! Then we went to the meeting telling us all about it!! All 21 of us walked out of the room looking quite pale! We were warned about the dangers of driving the jeeps on the beach, about the Dingoes attacking us and about the 9 of the 10 most dangerous snakes that lived on the island!! We asked ourselves "what are we doing?"!!! But at 6:30am the next morning we'd packed our tents, gas cookers, food and drink, and most importantly the shovel (which was to be the toilet for the next few days)!! In our jeep there were 9 girls and 2 guys, we were very lucky to have Edwin driving and Thomas co-driving! The first night it poured down with rain so we all went to sleep by 9pm!! But the second night was different, within an hour of setting up camp the Dingoes arrived!! We were all very scared!!They were circiling our camp all night looking for food! But we got used to them and we all managed to get a good nights sleep!! During the day we visited the most amazing places! Lake Mackenzie for a swim, Indian Head where we could look down at the Turtles and Tiger Sharks in the sea, Champagne Pools, Lake Wabby and Happy Valley and Eurong!! Some of the roads were very bad and we all bounced around in the back of the 4X4!! But we had to say a big Thank You to Edwin who looked after us!!! (If people complain to us about our drive when we get home- we'll tell you to go and experince Fraser Island, then you'll know what bumpy is!!!)
It was a great experience and we had a good mix of people with us! We had people from Holland, Denmark, Sweden, USA, New Zeland, Israel, Ireland, England, France, Japan and Wales so quite a mix and we did very well with all the different languages!
Had a very long, well deserved shower when we got back!!! we were all just a bit smelly and sandy!!!!! Uch!!!
Bye for now!!! Fi xx
