Well you can say this for Germany - they know how to do rain!. Fantastic storm in Hameln overnight. We watched the lightening storm through our bedroon ceiling window and I had visions of the French campsite a couple of years ago where all the caravans got washed away - though as we weren't on a hill it wasn't very likely but I do like to dramatise. The next day the rain continued so we upped sticks and headed here to Goslar in the Harz mountains which I'd been to years ago and remembered as being pretty. This was a bit of a detour off the fairy tale road we thought but in fact when we got here there were images of witches everywhere - the side of houses, statues in the street and, as we have a in a photo, flying though the wood - we eventually worked out this was where Hansel and Gretel and the wicked witch came from!
We settled in a nice lakeside campsite but the rain didn't let up. It rained and rained and rained. And then rained some more! Eventually we had to go out for supplies and managed to catch an interval in a down pour but still had to stop in a bus shelter for half an hour to avoid getting completely soaked. There are a lot of bikers here so we feel a bit intimidated on our little scooter, especially when we're sheltering from the rain in a bus shelter! Anyway, we made it into Goslar which was as pretty as I remembered but with a very annoying clock that plays one of those tunes on the hour, every hour. If you live in Goslar it must be like Christmas carols in Debenhams in December when you work there! Anyway, we had a nice Bratwurst and Sauerkraut lunch and resupplied, though we did get soaked on the way home.
While all the rain was going on we'd decided to start a jigsaw - big mistake. I couldn't get Gordon away from it! And would he let me see the picture on the box? And having started it of course we couldn't leave till it was finished! In fact, at midnight last night when it was only the last bit of plain blue surround that remained to be done we called it a day and the release of tension in the campervan was palpable!
