Bit of a sleep in this morning and a later breakfast at the buffet included with our room - pleasant change.
Took about 10 minutes to walk to Dundas Square in the hub of the city where we started hop-on-hop-off sightseeing bus tour. Was perfect sitting on the top deck considering beautifully sunny day, about 25 degrees. Toronto is quite an interesting city, apparently one of the most cosmopolitan in the world with a mixture of architecture and an incredible amount of construction happening - seemingly primarily for residential high rise. Had a stop at the popular Casa Loma, a gothic castle like home built by Sir Henry Pellatt in 1911 - now a museum. Filming was taking place there today, perhaps related to the TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) which has the city buzzing at the moment and for all of September - apparently second only to Cannes.
Our next stop was the famous CN Tower - was the tallest building in the world until 2010. Seeing such a great day we took the 58 second lift ride to the observation deck (346m) and not surprisingly the views were superb! I was a little hesitant with the area of glass floor (!) but Raym was particularly impressed with the world's highest wine cellar in their "360" revolving restaurant . Walked past the Rogers Centre - "home of the Toronto Blue Jays" and found Union Station, under a massive refurbishment, in preparation for our early departure tomorrow. Grabbed a hot dog while waiting for our next bus for the few stops to the Harbourfront. Had a really pleasant hour long cruise on the massive (800 miles long) Lake Ontario past Hanlan's Point which is home to Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (commuter aircraft only), Mugg's Island and Centre Island. All very picturesque, dotted with parks, greenery and yachts.
Back on the bus to St Lawrence Market - supposedly the world's no 1 food market! We loved checking out the awesome array of fresh fruits, cheeses, meats, seafood .....unreal! Yum!
Back to our hotel for a rest.
The streets were a buzz tonight with film festival activities. Enjoyed an Asian meal downtown.
