Well finally the wedding day has dawned - and what a shame it is so overcast and drizzling rain! Probably the worst day weather wise so far! But nothing can change that and basically the show must go on!!
After breakfast the boys caught cabs into Patchogue for haircuts and shopping, Karen and Jill went off to get their hair done, Roey chilled out at the hotel while the rest of us (8 in total) caught a couple of cabs the 20 minute or so trip to Port Jefferson. A quaint interesting little town on Long Island Sound from where it is possible to take an hour and 15 minute ferry trip (both car and passenger) across to Bridgeport Connecticut. We enjoyed strolling around the shops and harbour area despite the rain, and could easily imagine what a vibrant and popular spot it would be in the sunshine. Highlight was certainly the lobster rolls and clam chowder for lunch at "Steamers" while the rain was absolutely bucketing down. Things intensified somewhat when water began gushing down the street and was way past the axles of vehicles! By this stage we had ordered our cabs for our return journey but police cars had arrived and some roads were closed off! Was a bit hairy there for a while but we managed to get through some really significant amounts of water till we got back on the main freeway to Holtsville - which hadn't experienced the storm! Quite an adventure so were glad for a relaxing swim, spa and rest (not to mention the ironing of the odd shirt and pair of pants) before getting ready for the wedding. We were picked up by bus at 430pm for the 20 minute drive to The Old Field Club at East Setauket, the superb venue for the wedding and reception. Every aspect of the celebration was sensational. Champagne on arrival on the deck looking out over the picturesque lake; the outdoor service (yes the rain held off ); cocktail hour with divine canapés plus an abundance of other hot and cold food; then the sit down three course meal in the ballroom. The entire day was perfect; speeches were great and everyone enjoyed themselves immensely! With some effort eventually got everyone loaded back on the bus for the trip back at about 1130! Can't believe it is all over!
