Quite an overcast New York morning - obviously rained overnight. Plenty of sorting, reorganising and packing happening for impending departure. Had breakfast in a deli downstairs then Roey headed off up to Port Authority and we wandered down to the Hudson River. Hard to believe we were really that close to the river. Large ferry terminal for trips out to Liberty and Ellis Island. Adjacent is the Intrepid - as in space shuttle - set up as a permanent museum. Had heard it is well worth a visit and looked fantastic - with it's aircraft carrier, several aircraft and submarine. (Maybe next time!?!) Further up the pier the Arcadia (P & O) and a Carnival cruise ship were docked - the Arcadia is quite an impressive ship; we met an elderly English couple the night before who were passengers.
After wandering around a bit more headed back to apartment for final packing then caught cab to Penn station on 34th st, the Long Island Rail Road area (LIRR). After getting tickets - met up with Blake and Mitch and the rest of crew and waited almost an hour for our departure to Ronkonkoma. Once again bit of a rush once track number is announced - but we made it! Trip was about an hour and 15 minutes and called the hotel for shuttle bus to pick us up (took two trips). The Holtsville Residence Inn by Marriott is a lovely property - great rooms and amenities - though location is unusual as doesn't appear to be near anything much at all. Thrilled with our lovely welcome basket of goodies from Karen & Chuck, Jackie's parents - was very thoughtful. Wandered around a bit, had a beer with the boys at nearby Chillis then enjoyed relaxing with a few drinks and the included evening Fajitas before Greg and Karen arrived back from their dinner. Bring on the wedding!
