Train trip from Sutherland to airport worked well - especially with a yummy coffee from Roey to get us going! 30 minute trip including the change at Wolli Creek! After Virgin check in, quick coffee and bite to eat....no time and we were boarding before 830am. Lucky once again to have three seats to share ....and the three hour flight allowed ample time for a snooze (Raymo), a snack and plenty of reading.
Arrival in Cairns was straightforward as was collection of our Thrifty Toyota Corolla Hatchback. With overcast weather and slight drizzle, drove into Cairns, parked and had a wander around. After a bite to eat walked along the waterfront Marina area....plenty of yachts, bars and hotels....quite impressive.
Started heading south along Bruce Highway about 2.30pm ... more drizzle and some heavier rain....travel slow at times due to road works. Interesting drive through rainforest terrain, sugarcane plantations flanked by rail lines to transport harvested cane, banana plantations, and lushly forested mountains.
Drove around Innisfail...then on to Mission Beach. Windy road heading across to coast...quant little village township. Found our Eco Village Resort on outskirts ....such a pleasant surprise! Just gorgeous! Lovely tropical setting on beach...plantation shutter sliding doors and our own water feature off our front deck. Delightful! Walked along the beach for about 10 mins into town to check things out and buy some more supplies then had a drink at an awesome beach bar before walking back. Had a beautiful dinner in the resorts restaurant - fish for both of us! Delicious.
