We headed next to Airlie Beach. We wanted to book a sailing tour when we got there so this was our mission when we arrived - to hunt down a good sailing trip. We popped into several agents but they all kept saying how busy the boats were at the moment. Apparently the 'schoolies' were all here meaning everything was busier then normal. It took us a while to realise what they were but soon realised they were the kids who had just graduated from high school, and they apparently come hear to party when they've finished school. All the agents also kept saying that a boat Prima still had 2 places left, but we kept umming and aaring.
In the end we saw a deal that a hostel was doing. It was a really good deal, you got a 2 day 2 night sailing on the Whitsundays tour, a 2 day 1 night stay on Fraser Island tour and then a couple of nights accommodation thrown in at Magnum's hostel. the lady quickly booked us in to secure us a place. Turned out we'd been booked onto this 'Prima' boat and as it had been mentioned a few times we thought it must be good. We were also lucky to upgrade our room at the hostel to a double instead of shared so it was nice. This was also lucky as our hostel seemed to be where all the 'schoolies' were staying so it was like a mini 18 year old resort in Ibiza! When cooking dinner that night Graeme was being chatted up by 2 girls who soon explained how they'd just finished school hehe.
We had 2 nights booked before the sailing tour. We spent that evening and the next day relaxing and pottering around the town. We did some shopping and went to see the local Lagoon swimming area. We also prepared ourselves for our sailing trip, making sure we'd bought some wine. You were not allowed red wine or glass on the boat. We decided to get a box of white wine to share as we couldn't find any cheap cans. I think white wine is growing on Graeme a little - Just proof read this before we uploaded it and would like to point out that I was in the middle of the ocean so it was a choice between white wine or sea water……yes I did try the sea water first.
