I'm writing this while on the plane to Dubai. Hopefully when I get to the airport I can upload it. I'm only two hours into the flight, but so far it has been one of the most comfortable I've had. I'm at the back row so my seat can go back as far as I want it to, and I'm the only passenger in the middle row of 4 seats. I could lay down if I wanted. They also have a plug for my laptop charger so I can use it for as long as I want.
Last night was our last in Melbourne. I actually wrote most of this entry while waiting for our movie, Pacific Rim, which we saw on the world's 3rd largest IMAX. And it was totally awesome. Most of that day was spent at the Melbourne Museum which was pretty much your standard museum fare. It did have a really interesting exhibit on the human mind and brain though, so that was cool. The bugs and dinosaurs were interesting too.
Thursday was the zoo, and just as the museum, it was basically what you would expect. I didn't even bother taking any photos. I figured it was either take photos of nothing or take them of everything. And I couldn't be bothered doing that. You couldn't see half the animals anyway which always seems to be the case with zoos. There was one monkey however which leapt right up against the glass to pee on me. And a gay lion much to the displeasure of the other lion. Those were funny.
That night was also an interesting one. It was $20 steak night at the Sherlock Holmes Pub which was a pub we had been to earlier in the week. It was a nice place so we thought that sounded good. Unfortunately it was packed so we found ourselves walking around until we found a little restaurant for dinner. Then we headed back to the pub. At the table next to us was a guy doing magic card tricks. And to my untrained eye (and most others in the pub) he was really good at them. For whatever reason at about midnight we followed him and his group to a karaoke bar. Unfortunately there were no more magic tricks, and his singing which he had talked up didn't match the hype.
Wednesday was pretty much a day off, slept in and did pretty much nothing. Partly due to the $220 drinks bill we had from the night before at Dracula's. Which was probably the highlight of the whole trip. Dane had been to the Gold Coast one quite a few times and to this one once before and was always talking up how awesome it was. So much so that I was starting to wonder if it could possibly live up to it. But it did.
Fantastic food, great cocktails, hilarious waitstaff and a great show. Not much more you could ask for. Alan even got a strongly worded letter from one of the waitstaff after he was told not to touch the drinks just bought to the table and he did anyway. We thought the guy was joking, but then 5 minutes later he came back with the letter. It was that kind of thing which made it a pretty unique and awesome experience.
We also walked around the Royal Botanical Gardens and went to the Aquarium. Half the Aquarium was under construction which was disappointing. Actually that being said, we ran into the same problem at the zoo and the museum too with large parts roped off due to construction. But it was still cool.
