Murren is one of the places I had marked on my Google Map years ago. Probably the second pin I put on there after the Bastei Bridge, so I was pretty excited to get to tick it off.
To get there we drove to a town called Interlaken. I struggle now to remember the details of the road trip, as in what happened when exactly. But I do remember that most of the drive was pretty awesome. I think it would probably on this leg that we stopped a few times to take pictures of the Alps in the distance. These seem kinda lame looking back now after what we saw after that. I think it also might have been on this drive as we got closer to Interlaken that we started driving through tunnels carved in the side of cliff faces as we wound our way through narrow winding streets on the side of the cliff. A little scary, lots of blind corners, but totally awesome.
Interlaken itself was a pretty quiet kinda place, and not much happened. We stayed at a hostel there over night. The one thing I really do remember about the place is the colour of the water there in the river. The most amazing aqua sorta colour I've even seen water be. It almost looked like it would have glowed in the dark. The next morning we were on our way to Murren.
It was only like an hour or so, maybe not even that, to the south of Interlaken to get to a place called Lauterbrunnen. A very quaint little Swiss town in the middle of a valley surrounded by mountains. From there we caught a cable car up to a town which I now can't remember the name of, but it's an hour walk away from Murren.
We had the option to catch the cable car straight to Murren but it cost more. We also had the option to catch it to several places further up the mountain too, but those got really expensive, with the top one being 90 euro. So we took the cheapest option and then walked to Murren. This turned out to be the best choice we could have made. We met a girl, Frances, who joined us and then we hiked. And on this hike we started seeing snow. So we took the time to play with it a bit, have snowball fights etc. We also got a lot of amazing photos.
One of which was a good old fashioned jumping photo in front of the mountain. It took about 20 or so photos to get it with a bunch of photos of us all in various stages of jumping. Kinda funny actually.
When we got to Murren we had a couple of beers and lunch. Then we hiked a bit more, going a bit further up the mountain where we found a bit of deeper snow. Played with it some more and then hiked back. By the time we got back to that first small town it was dark. Frances was staying at a hostel there, so we joined her for some pizza there which was pretty delicious. Then we ate some Swiss chocolate. It was a pretty damn good day.
Then we went back down the cable car and slept in our car. When we woke the next morning we decided to head south to Milan.
