So this is Monday the 16th. We've just left our hosts in Prievidza and have to basically hitch across the entire country to Kosice. We were a little worried about this leg of the journey. We already had a host waiting for us when we got there, but we had to make it first.
In the end we did make it. Though we were cutting it fine. It took 3 different trips to get there, two of which were trucks. This was cool, I'd never been in one of those huge trucks before (that I can remember). Neither of the truck driver spoke a whole lot of English, but they were pretty cool still. The second in particular was good fun, making the truck bounce as much as possible and having a good laugh about it. But he also slowed down and pointed out some things along the way. On this trip alone with must have passed like 4 castles that we could see, mostly just ruins. There was a cool mausoleum too that he pointed out and slowed down as we passed. And then as we were driving through the hills towards Koncise he again slowed down in the areas offering the best views so we could take photos. You don't get this service when taking the bus or train.
It was past 8pm by the time we made it to Konice. But we were there, and got in contact with our host and went to meet them. Our host was Michael, but there is a bit of a funny story behind this. We had actually sent out several requests and got back to responses. The first was from Michal and the second from a girl called Adriana. As it turns out they are a couple and they play a game where they both hit the submit button at the same time on the response and see who gets it. They have a running theory that girls respond to guys and vice versa. It was actually Nikki who responds to Michael so they chalked that up as another one though Nikki insists it's just because he's reached her inbox first.
They took us out to a few local places, one which was a micro-brewery called Golem which brewed some delicious beer. Here we also tried some kind of cheese that was actually made with beer added to it some how. Was quite interesting. It's always good to try the local stuff.
We explored Koncise a bit the next day but it proved to actually be kinda boring. There was a pretty cool cathedral but that was about it. It did have this cool looking underground bit (apparently the city use to be lower) but it was closed due to renovations (I just keep running into this). So we just decided to get an early start on our hitch-hiking to the next town which was Prešev where we had a host through our previous host Mario from Prievidza.
